Non-NHS (Private) Fees – Information for Patients

What are non-NHS services?

Most GP services are provided free of charge under the NHS. However, some services are not funded by the NHS. These are known as non-NHS (private) services and may incur a fee.

Examples of services that may incur a fee

Examples include GP letters, medical reports, DVLA forms, travel certificates, private prescriptions, and holiday cancellation forms. These services are optional and not part of NHS care.

How much will I be charged?

The practice operates a standard fee schedule based on national guidance and the time required to complete the work. Please see the fee table below or contact reception for further information.

Do I have to pay in advance?

Yes. Payment is usually required before work begins. You will always be informed of the fee and given the opportunity to agree before any work is undertaken.

How long will it take?

Most requests are completed within up to 28 working days. NHS clinical work is prioritised at all times.

Can my GP refuse a request?

Yes. Your GP may decline a request if it is not appropriate, if there is insufficient medical information, or if it falls outside their professional responsibilities.

Services we do not provide

The practice does not provide certain private services such as Power of Attorney documentation, identity verification, extreme activity certificates, or some legal reports.

Your choice

Non-NHS services are optional. You are under no obligation to proceed once informed of the fee.

Questions or concerns

If you have any questions about fees or services, please speak to a member of our reception team or contact the Practice Manager. Complaints will be handled under the Practice Complaints Policy.

Key points to remember
