Carers

Not everyone thinks of themselves as a carer, but recognising that you are is important in getting the practical, emotional and financial support you need.  Balancing work and caring can be tough, but carrying on working can also be positive.  You can have a carer’s assessment to find out what kind of support you can get.  You may also be entitled to financial help, such as benefits or grants.

  • Are you a carer?

A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental ill health or substance misuse problems.
Anyone can become a carer, carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age.  Many feel they are doing what anyone else would in the same situation, looking after their mother, son or best friend, and just getting on with it.
Carers do not choose to become carers, it just happens.
Being an unpaid carer can have an effect on your own health and well-being and can also lead to social isolation.
Let us know that you are a carer so we can support you. If no-one knows that you are a carer it can be harder to get the support you need.

  • Carers champion

Our Carer’s champion is Suzanne Jarvis.
For us, having a non-clinical lead was important.  Suzanne is available Monday to Friday (times vary, please ask Reception) to our registered carers and taking the lead and paving the way forward.
Carers are people who look after family members and friends.
